Ballerina Doll, Marie

Our charming little cotton ballerina dressed in a tulle tutu is named for Marie van Goethem, the 14-year-old subject of the famous Little Dancer sculpture in The Met collection by Edgar Degas (French, 1834–1917). Degas’s interest in ballet dancers intensified in the 1870s, and eventually he produced approximately 1,500 works on the subject.
