Cypriot Cabochon Hoop Earrings from The Met Museum

These handsome hoops take their inspiration from an ancient crescent-shaped gold earring in The Met collection. Our contemporary pair features an eternally stylish design in 18K gold plate with glass cabochons and sterling silver ear wires. The original earring, from the island of Cyprus, dates from the 5th century B.C. to the 1st century A.D. The crescent-shaped earring was a very long-lived form on Cyprus and, as yet, is impossible to date securely. Most known examples are probably Roman.
