Fatimid Lapis Crescent Drop Earrings from The Met Museum

$85.00

An intricate gold and glass centerpiece (11th century) attributed to Syria lends its crescent motif to our eye-catching drop earrings. The original boasts a staff bearing a smaller crescent; granulated, scrolling forms; and a pair of confronting birds-popular in jewelry crafted during the Fatimid dynasty (909-1171)-one of which still maintains its luxurious blue cloisonné enamel, a luxury item in the Byzantine world that may have been exported to Syria and Egypt. Our modern design refines this ornate object in the Museum’s holdings, and reinterprets the blue glass with rich lapis.
